"A tradition unlike any other -- the FLOG in Canaan Valley"

Tournament Rules of Play

Players age 60 and above play from Gold tees, all others play from the White tees.

Each player has one mulligan to use in each round.  Players may use the mulligan for any shot (tee, putt, etc.), and the mulligan must be declared before playing it.  Once you strike the ball on a mulligan shot, the previous shot is erased, and the mulligan shot is the ball in play.

Out-of-bounds (white stakes) is penalty stroke and play the ball within two club lengths from the point where the ball went out of bounds.

Hazards (red and yellow stakes) are drop within two club lengths of where the ball entered the hazard, and a one stroke penalty.  Use the drop zone if there is one.

Lost ball (where there are no hazard or out-of-bounds stakes) is penalty stroke and play a new ball in the area where you think the lost ball should be.  Please limit your search of a lost ball to 2 minutes.

We will use “winter rules” for all rounds.  You are allowed to roll your ball no more than 12 inches from where it lies in the fairway as well as off the fairway.  However, you are not allowed to improve your lie, e.g., from first cut to fairway, from rough to first cut, etc.   You are not allowed to move or touch the ball in a sandtrap.    These rules may be modified by the tournament directors in the event of inclement weather.    In the event that the tournament is played during or after a heavy rain, where the traps have water, or the conditions of the traps do not allow for normal play from them, balls may be dropped out of the trap, on a line toward the flag, but no closer to the flag.  The decision to play the traps in this manner will be announced by the tournament directors.

Standard scramble rules will apply for the 2-man and 4-man scramble rounds.  Play the other shots within one club length from the selected ball.  However, you cannot improve your lie by rolling your ball from the first cut to the fairway, or from the rough to the first cut, etc.  For the 4-man scramble, teams must use a minimum of one tee shot by each player.

For “Closest-to-the-Pin” Skill Shots, the ball must be on the putting surface of the green.    Balls on the fringe are not eligible.  The last foursome is asked to retrieve the ball markers and return them to the pro shop.

All scorecards should be clearly marked as to the Round # and players’ names, and turned in to the Tournament Directors as soon as possible after the match is finished.

Contact the Tournament Directors if you have any questions about any of the above tournament rules.
